So, who is this new guy??

His name is Matt Horton. He is an IT guy. Yep a true geek, just as I like them. However, he is the first geek that also loves the outdoors, loves trying new things and is industrious!!!!! He is also loyal, caring, supportive and has an amazing body. He really shouldn't exist.

It is all Christine's fault that we are together at all. You see, he is Christine's roommate and long time friend. There was no way in hell I was going to do anything with an old friend of a dear friend like Christine.

However, that is not what the girls had in mind. Sonja tried to work on me, telling me that he had a great geek boy ass, but I just wasn't biting. I refused to really look at him in any way but as Christine's roommate.

Christine, however, was working the other angle. She was slowly wearing him down...you guys like the same books, you both are geeks, you think she is hot, etc. From what I understand, he was going to give up on me, because I just wasn't giving him the time of day.

The first night I remember meeting him (which evidently wasn't the first time we met), was at the dance club. We sat next to each other for a while but didn't talk--at all. Then I spent the rest of the night dancing. At the end of the night, I gave him a hug and said "Goodnight. Next time I might actually talk to you!" Come on, let's face it, you put two shy people next to each other and small talk just isn't going to happen.

Anyhoo, Ian had invited Christine to the opening of the shark exhibit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. She had finagled Matt to come along. Little did I realize that it was her plan all along to get the two of us together. I split from the group to go play with the sharks. Matt found me outside on the phone and stayed with me the rest of the night. I walked him through the exhibit, telling him all about the sharkies.

Evidently, seeing me in my environment was enough for him.

A couple of weeks later, it was his birthday. Keep in mind, I still considered him as just Christine's roommate. I slept too long and was going to be late for the party. I was going to be late for his birthday party, what an ass. So, I stopped by Safeway and bought a $4 flower bouquet. I got to the club as he was leaving for a smoke. I gave him a hug and the flowers and went inside.

I danced and got drunk. I went out for a smoke and he came out a little later for one as well. He told me that I was the first person to ever give him flowers. We were both drunk as were having drunk people talk. Somehow the topic got onto dating. I mentioned that really wasn't in the dating mode. I have always had to be the aggressor and make the first move. I wasn't going to do any more asking. If someone wanted to go out with me, they would just have to have the balls to ask.

There were some maledictions thrown his way when he told me he never asked anyone out, they all asked him. Then, he said, "we should go out some time."

"Okay, but you have to ask me again when you aren't drunk. Then I can say, 'Yipee, someone asked me out'" and he said, "and I can say, Yipee--I asked someone out."

This is when I would like to point out that I didn't know he had a body when I agreed to go out with him. I mean, who would think he would? He is a geek, after all. But I walked into the bar at about the time Sonja asked him to show her his tattoo. He took his shirt off (it is on his back). Luckily, he was facing away from us, because both of our mouths dropped. Serious eye-candy baby!!!

Well, he volunteered himself to help the day of my move. Long story on that day, we had someone recovering from a ruffies attack, someone cut himself on a window, the cats walked on the walls (literally), and I was drugged beyond belief. I had taken some pain killers and they made me quite stoned. I wasn't going to be able to drive the truck back to the rental place. We have been together ever since.

Don't get me wrong, we still have our truly horrible days (I mean, he is dating me after all), but so far it has only brought us closer together. Yep, I love the guy. Lots.
